castro - ¡aquí está el trauco!

i thought it would be fun to share my favorite Chilote myth! the people of the island of Chiloe have an extensive mythology, some of which are very useful in avoiding potentially hostile situations. you'll see what i mean.

el trauco - a dwarf like creature who lives deep in the forests. he wears a cone shaped hat and carries a hatchet. he has the magical power to attract young and middle aged women, who all have to have sexual intercourse with him. thanks to el trauco, when a single woman is pregnant and no man steps forward as the father, it is assumed that she fell victim to the irresitible trauco, that he is the father, and she is considered blameless

i might have fallen victim, because apparently i was in the vicinity of el trauco when i entered an artesanía. i'll let you know if there becomes a reason to worry..

now time for some pictures from around Castro!
