el comienzo

i figure since i have been m.i.a. for the past 2 weeks it's only fitting to start from the very beginning of my chilean escapades, meaning how my snickers bar completely melted during the 15 minute walk from the grocery store Lider back to Campus Oriente to kill some time before taking the metro to the bus terminal. good thing the study center on campus has a freezer, because at that point in time i did not know just how crucial that very snickers bar would be.

in addition to buying hella sweets and cheese empanadas (normal), the best purchase for my trip was a bright orange digital watch that you will be able to see in the majority of the upcoming photos.

considering we had 4 hours to chill between our not-so-intensive language program final and our departure, we were obviously rushed and ended up having to take a taxi (four girls with 30 pound backpacks crammed on top of each other) in order to avoid potentially missing our overnight bus.

nonetheless, all 7 of us (me, keelin, rachael *rapha*, natalie, julian *jules*, russell *roshel*, catalina) successfully met up at the terminal. here are a few memorable quotes that you probably won't find as funny as we did that occurred before/during the 17 hour bus ride to Castro, Chiloe *please excuse any profanity*:

-1 minute after walking from campus- Rapha: "i feel like i'm already losing weight"

Natalie: "jules, want a sleeping pill?"
Julian: "no thanks"
Natalie: "you don't want to go comatose with us?"

-in the process of naming philosophers- Roshel: "Aristocrates"

-in a discussion over which animals we all were, to J- "you're a moose"
someone: "aren't they violent?"
Jules: "they're fucking MAJESTIC!"

Roshel: "my tongue is a dumb piece of shit"

here are some photos of what went down on the bus:

hot..

i'm not sorry about putting this up

the night went on with various wild fires burning in the near distance, and while the endless music videos of a creepy man trying to be sexy were not enough to put me to sleep, the next morning the bus arrived at the ferry to cross over to Isla Grande de Chiloe, which i didn't even realize we were on because a huge red truck pulled up next to our bus and was blocking all the windows. when i finally put two and two together (people kept mysteriously disappearing from the bus), i was on the water with tons of seals and this dolphin:
