santa lucia

continuing with the tourist theme, one morning before class i went to to Cerro Santa Lucia which is just a 10 minute walk from my apartment. Santa Lucia is a hill much smaller than previously mentioned Cerro San Cristobal and is right in the middle of the city. it is basically a castle with of lots of pretty gardens and there is usually some art or cultural festival going on at the main patio.

the entrance:

"Magic fountain.
Throw a coin,
close your eyes,
and make a wish.
Make-A-Wish Foundation International, Chile.
Thanks to the Municipality of Santiago"

dramatically throwing a coin into the fountain.
i think i was too caught up in the moment and forgot to make a wish though

one time this súper chill band was playing and some weird fashion show was going on

some views from the top, smoggyy:

now for the first time i have felt like an exotic species, when andrea and i were subject to an ambush.

by these children on a school field trip:

as soon as Dre and i walked through this nice plaza to take a picture of our good friend
Pedro de Valdivia...
Pedro.
... we were completely surrounded by twenty 10 or 11 year old kids that bombarded us with so many questions that i could not figure out which ones to answer or who was even asking them. the first things that came out of their mouths:

¿¿de dónde son?? -  "where are you from??"
¡¡mira!! ¡sus ojos! - "look at her eyes!!"
¡¿eres un modelo?! -  "are you a model?!"[obviously directed towards my tall blonde friend]

after i yelled out if i could take a picture of all of them (1. because i actually did need photo evidence of this moment, and 2. because i needed my personal space back and needed to get them all secluded a good distance away from me) , dre and i peaced out and started walking down the stairs to go back down the hill

about 5 minutes later we hear people yelling at us and we looked up the staircase and there is a group of students following us. they then asked if they could take a picture with us. SO. we waiting until they caught up and then one by one, the boys stood between me and andrea while their friends snapped pictures.

obviously we were the first gringas they have ever come into contact with.

oh. and another time i went to cerro santa lucia
I FOUND PUPPIES!!!
