snooze

another small incident that made me want to move out:

my host mom told me she would take me on the metro the next morning because i had never taken it before, and had no idea how to get there from the house. we planned to leave at 7:30 am because i had to meet my group in another part of town promptly at 8:15 am to go to the immigration office. its 7:24 and i look into her room: alarm is going off and she's still passed out. i had heard an alarm going on and off for the past 15 minutes but i just figured it was host stranger's.

i knock and she says "i don't feel like going anymore, you can go alone"

fantastic. it wouldn't have been so bad if she had at least given me the correct directions.

host mom tells me to walk 4 blocks down the street and then turn right on the street "Larrain". 10 minutes after turning right, i had a feeling i wasn't going the right way, so i crossed the street and asked these nice old ladies who informed me that the metro was definitely the other direction.

luckily the metro was very similar to the bay area's BART system and i caught my mistake of almost making the wrong connection. and i made it on time.

take that, host mom.

among other annoyances, one of the biggest deciding factors in wanting to peace out was that i realized how much we were paying these host families to take good care of us, and i had experienced how well my friends' host families had been treating them and thought i deserved the same.
