the white house of chile

the presidential/government building of Chile is called "La Moneda". it got its name because it was formerly a coin production facility. the whole EAP group took a tour with all of the monitores (peer advisors)
La Moneda
one of the most important historical events having occurred at the Palacio de la Moneda was the Chilean coup of September 11, 1973, when it was captured by military units loyal to Commander-in-Chief Augusto Pinochet. Socialist Salvador Allende, the president of Chile at the time, committed suicide here shortly after the take-over. And thus began the 17-year military dictatorship of Pinochet.

Viva Chile, Mierda!
literally translates to: "Long Live Chile, Shit!"
more accurately means "Viva Chile, Damn it!"
this phrase is used a positive statement and shows true Chilean pride

the night ended with an asa(d)o at my friend tyler's host family's house! *chileans don't pronounce any d's when they are between an "a" and an "o"..*
