pajareando

pajarear - to day dream, or in my case: to not be paying any attention to my surroundings

today was the first stupid thing i've done since i've been in Chile! it was bound to happen eventually.

three friends and i went to eat at a fancy hotdog place and were sitting on the patio along a busy street. after our food had been delivered, the guys at the table next to us say something to our waiter, who immediately runs through the cross walk to the other side of the street (while still holding the utensils he was about to give us) and chases after a guy in nice business attire. i'm thinking "oh maybe the dude dined and dashed". then i see the business man drop something and keep running and the waiter picked up my purse from the crowded Santiago street.

i had it sitting between me and my friend's feet under the table, and never even noticed it was missing. my friends who were across the table facing me never saw the guy either.

now i know what all those hooks under the tables are for - to attach all your shit to so it can't get jacked.

it would be that the first time i put my purse on the floor the entire time i've been here that it would get stolen, should've kept to my old ways.

i'm still in shock at how lucky i was - that the men at the table next to us told the waiter; that the waiter chased the guy down; that the guy actually dropped my purse and didn't just keep running with it

we paid for the nice guys' meals and i gave the waiter $10.000 pesos (~ $20 USD) on top of the included 10% gratuity

on a lighter note, today i went to the biggest store ever - at least 2 times the size of costco and has everything

i bought these super cool notebooks for when class starts, for less than $6 total:
