"missing key"

so i know i made my host family seem really awesome a few posts ago. but i soon learned that first impressions mean nothing. *dad, don't let mom read this..*

i'll start with the worst incident first.

i get home from class one night and my host mom tells me that she needs my keys to make copies for the host stranger (or at least i think thats what she said..) either way, she took my keys and gave me a new set later that evening.

on the first key chain, i had 3 keys but i only used 2: one for the door to the house, and one for the gate outside. this new key chain only had 2 keys on it, but i didn't think twice because i only use 2 anyway. the 3rd mystery key just got in the way because i'd forget which one i used first and then have to try all three again to get into the house.

monday morning, i try to leave for class but get trapped inside the front gate because one of the keys didn't work. i proceed to call my host mom, who told me that it must work and that i should ask Miguel, the guy that works for the complex. alas, i could not find him. so i waited for a car to drive through so i could leave.

monday evening, i return to the house. same problem, i can't get into the gate so i have to wait for a car to open it. when i got inside, i told my host mom again that the key didn't work. she asked me if i had all 3 keys she gave me, and i said that she never gave me 3, only 2, and that one of the 2 didn't work.

this is where things got nasty.

host mom raises her voice and keeps repeating with a lot of force "NO, i gave you 3 keys. i'm positive i gave you 3"; and when i told her that i was 100% positive that she only gave me 2, she wouldn't let me get a word in and kept insisting that i lost one.

at this point i was extremely flustered and went to my room and closed the door. 10 minutes later she knocks saying "disculpa, disculpa (which is like, forgive me, i was mistaken) i found the key you need"

but the damage had already been done.
